Hair loss is not a life threatening condition nor is it a condition which may turn out to be dangerous for the individual suffering from it. Sudden hair loss on the other hand may be a sign of an underlying condition specific to the person suffering from it. There are numerous causes of sudden hair loss in both men and women. These causes of sudden hair loss are usually similar in both genders and in most cases, hair loss is only temporary. These may also be the causes of hair loss in children.

Medication And Illnesses

Medication and therapy are usually the primary causes of sudden hair loss in both men and women. Radiation therapy and some other medications such as strong antibiotics can cause the cells in the body to malfunction or decrease drastically. Most of the hair follicles are sensitive to changes in the body even small ones. These causes of sudden hair loss are usually necessary for the health and well being of the individual. Sudden hair loss is usually a temporary condition that goes away a few weeks after the medication or therapy is stopped. There are usually no comebacks for hair loss when the causes of sudden hair loss are medications and therapy.

Onslaught of illness and conditions can also be the cause of sudden hair loss. There are some specific conditions that can be the causes of sudden hair loss. The same with medicines and other radiation therapy, once the illness has been resolved, hair loss is reversed.

Stress

Stress is one of the primary causes of sudden hair loss. This is probably one of the primary causes of sudden hair loss and one that may be quite difficult to solve compared to those caused by medicines and radiation therapy. Mental and emotional stresses are the primary causes of sudden hair loss for most people. Although people react differently to stress, many react by either pulling out their own hair by themselves or their body reacts with hair loss on its own. Treating stress comes in many different ways and methods. The most often recommended treatment for stress is therapy with a psychologist combined with medication.

These different causes of sudden hair loss are by no means the only causes that may result to sudden hair loss for both men and women. There are other causes of sudden hair loss although these causes may not be as common as those stated above.

Hair loss not only affects individuals who are advanced in age but also affects children. Hair loss in itself is actually not life threatening and nor is it singularly dangerous to one’s physical health. The person’s or child’s mental well being may be called into question when he or she experiences severe hair loss. Depending on the age of the child, peer pressure may play a large role on how the child is burdened by the hair loss happening to him or her at the moment. There are many different causes of hair loss in children and while some of these causes of hair loss in children may be similar to those of adults, a few are also specific to children only. Causes of hair loss in men and women may also be attributed to some of those in children.

Children’s Alopecia Areata

This type of alopecia areata is specific to children only because unlike those of adults which is supposed to happen when they age, children are basically at the prime of childhood and not supposed to have this type of hair loss. Causes of hair loss in children with this condition are basically unknown but the hair loss is usually reversed in a maximum time of twelve months for most cases of children’s alopecia areata. Even body hair is affected by this type of hair loss, in some cases total body hair loss is experienced with some scalp hair loss as well.

Traction Alopecia

Causes of hair loss in children with traction alopecia has something to do with pressure put on the hair due to the hair strands being tied too tightly or pulled into a pony tail or some other hair style. This very common cause of hair loss in children usually occurs in females rather males due mainly to the fact that females have longer hair than males. Girl’s longer hair is usually tied up in different hairstyles. This hair loss condition is usually treated or remedied by reducing the pressure on the hair follicles by not tying the hair too tightly or giving the hair follicles a break by letting the hair just hang free.

Trichotillomania

This hair loss condition is caused by child compulsively pulling out his or her hair by themselves. Causes of hair loss in children with this condition are usually mental stress, long term tension or some other deep rooted psychological reason which the child may not even be conscious of. The best way to deal with this cause of hair loss in children is to focus on the stress or tension that the child may be experiencing instead of focusing on the hair loss.

Hair loss in men seems more common than hair loss in women. The different causes of hair loss in men may have some similarities in hair loss that occurs to women but there are also cases which are specific for men only. The causes of hair loss in men are quite common and some are easily remedied, others may be permanent. While some causes of hair loss in men are inevitable others can be prevented with early detection. The following are common causes of hair loss which usually occur to men, although there may also be some similarities with women.

Hormones And Genes

These two causes of hair loss in men are both very valid and quite common in men. While not all people are aware of the exact roles that these two factors play as the primary causes of hair loss in men, there have been many assumptions and theories regarding these.

Hormones play a big role as causes of hair loss in men because these affect the state of hair follicle sin men. Men and women have vastly different hormones. DHT is a hormone that is commonly and vastly found in men as it is produced in vast quantities in men compared to women. The hormone DHT is prone to engulfing hair follicles when produced in quantities which are more than the male body can handle. This cause of hair loss in men is due to the DHT hormone affecting the hair follicles by wrapping around it and causing it to shrink. The shrinkage will result to the follicles not functioning or not functioning normally.

Genes can be the causes of hair loss in men due to the recessive gene being passed on to one generation to another. There have been theories that assert that hair loss is commonly passed down from the maternal side of the family to the generations to come but this theory is still under study. As causes of hair loss in men and women, genes are an inescapable truth.

Age

Age is one of the causes of hair loss in men which is also inescapable and inevitable. While genetic predisposition and also hormonal build up on the follicles can actually alter the function of the hair follicles, age also can also do this without the predisposition of genes and hormones. All living things age, and with ageing comes the malfunction of body systems and the death of cells. Hair follicles eventually shrink with age and it is this shrinkage that actually reduces the normal production of hair.

Hair loss is a condition that is neither life threatening nor dangerous for the individual affected by it. In spite of this, much money and time is spent on searching for ways to remedy or treat this condition. There are many different common causes of hair loss which can affect a man, a woman or both genders. Common causes of hair loss may be simple and easy to remedy of next to impossible to treat. The following are common causes of hair loss which may be difficult to treat or remedy.

Age And Hormones

These are two of the most common causes of hair loss for both men and women. It is a fact that age can and does bring about the reduce efficiency of the hair follicle to produce healthy and strong hair. This fact goes not only for hair follicles but also for all other bodily functions. It is to be expected that people of advanced age will eventually experience thinning hair or loss of some or all hair at some point in their lives.

Hormones play a huge role as common causes of hair loss in people. This role is displayed even more noticeably in males than females because male bodies produce the hormone DHT more then women’s bodies. DHT can actually cause the hair follicle to wither and shrink to an extent that it cannot manufacture healthy hairs. Sometimes, the hair follicles is so completely and irrevocably damaged or shrunk that it cannot produce hairs at all. For both of these common causes of hair loss, there is little or no hope at all of ever treating or reversing the condition or situation.

Stress

Stress may be one of the most deadly conditions that can affect a person. In this case, stress as a common cause of hair loss is very valid. There are many different reasons why a person may feel or experience stress but it does happen daily to just about everybody. Stress is a major contributor to a person’s loss of hair, even with children. The most common effect of stress manifests in mental issues, anxiety and depression which can all have loss of some hair as a symptom. Compulsive hair pulling can also be one of the common causes of hair loss in children, seldom in adults. This condition is the result of a person or child being stressed out of anxious as well as suffering from some form of tension.
